Vintage Franshaw Indiana state map souvenir hankie still has label attached. The Indiana state flowers, pretty peonies in shades of reds and pinks frame the map. Many landmarks and cities shown on the map including: Cambridge City, Camp Atterbury, Aurora, Jeffersonville, Monticello, Shelbyville, Indianapolis Speedway, Purdue University, University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Tipton, and many, many more. Hankie has a red border around the scalloped edge. This hankie in a different color variation is shown on page 181 of the book Handkerchiefs A Collecotors Guide
Souvenir state hankies were a popular item to bring home from vacation in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Franshaw was the most well know maker of state map hankies. Martha Stewart recently had an article about decorating with map textiles. You can read about it here on my blog
