What a great find this wonderful childrens antique hankie is! ADORABLE C1920 hankie features little girls out to play in the snow. One little girl rides on the sleigh pulled by 2 others. Small child follows with little doggie. Hankies bordered in a mustard gold colored frame and measures about 10.5" square.
The companion hankie to this ( with the girls building a snowman) is shown on page 83 of the book Children’s Handkerchiefs a Two Hundred Year History. They state the hankie is circa 1920 and European in origin. In the description of the companion hankie the authors state,"This handkerchief which uses negative to represent snow, employs an emphasis on line to define forms. The handkerchief suggests an important design transition, it epitomizes a stylistic change away from a more volumetric representation of space where surfaces are rendered in fine detail,toward shallow space and a greater emphasis on line to define forms." In the 1998 printing of this book, the hankie was valued at $40-$60. Childrens hankies have become even more valued since then. The darling design on this one makes it all the more special.
The hankie is in very good vintage condition with the linen fabric being very crisp. The hankie appears to have been unused. There is a very very faint portion of a fold line from storage and several little spots at just about center near the bottom of the hankie. Really very nice shape and very clean looking. Don’t miss out on this fabulous addition to any vintage childrens handkerchief collection. beautiful to frame!
